Nyffeler Engineering wins Zinno-Ideenscheck

Horw/Sursee LU – Founded just over a year ago, Nyffeler Engineering has been crowned the winner of the Zinno-Ideenscheck by zentralschweiz innovativ. The prize is endowed with 15,000 Swiss francs. This check was received by Nyffeler for its innovative fly cutter for civil engineering and tunnelling projects called HammerDrum.

The Zinno-Ideenscheck worth 15,000 francs has been awarded to Nyffeler Engineering from Sursee. zentralschweiz innovativ presents the prize each quarter. The program run jointly by the six cantons of Central Switzerland bestows this financial recognition on the best idea with the greatest prospect of realization and the biggest market potential.

Nyffeler’s large scale fly cutter called HammerDrum was chosen by zentralschweiz innovativ as the third recipient of the check this year. According to a press release, the jury was impressed by how the fly cutter combines the maximum power of a hydraulic hammer with the surface performance of a rock cutter. This tool will help civil engineering and raw materials companies, above all those engaged in tunnelling activities, to continuously separate out brittle materials on an area of up to 50 sqm. At the same time, loose substrate is scraped away at reduced rotational speed and higher torque.

“With its ingenuity and risk appetite, Mr Nyffeler is making a significant contribution to the economy of Central Switzerland,” said Lucerne’s Building, Environmental and Economic Director Fabian Peter on handing over the check. “This deserves great recognition and respect.”

Company boss Nicola Nyffeler said the support of zentralschweiz innovativ in this early phase of development is extremely valuable for him: “It enables me to expand my patent, which is key for securing investors.”
